The 52nd playing of the WPGA Match Play Championship kicked off this past Monday as the event ventured to the Links Course at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia for the second time in its history. The field of WPGA members battled it for four rounds of play as they started out with the seeding round and then followed it up with the first three rounds of matches on Monday and Tuesday. For the first time the event will now venture away from the host site with the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals conducted over the course of the next three and half months. Players will have approximately 5 weeks to complete each round and tee it up against their opponent at a mutually agreed upon site and date.

A group of seasoned WPGA professionals will comprise the final eight as they navigated their way through some tough matches to get there. Leading the way is 2-time defending champion, Jim Schuman. Also included in the quarterfinalists are past champions of the event Mark Voeller, Eddie Terasa and David Roesch. Rounding out the group of eight are Andy Podolak, Michael Crowley, Brad Peck and Craig Czerniejewski.

The WPGA would like to thank our event partners Harris Golf Cars, Cutter & Buck, Yamaha Golf & Utility and the PGA Tour for helping make the event possible with their generous support.

A big thank you also goes out to The GC’s of Lawsonia and their staff. The club did a great job of hosting the start of the first major on the 2018 WPGA tournament schedule.
