(Ryan Helminen, Matt Butch, Scott Merzlicker & Ze Vue)
Monday marked back-to-back weeks for the WPGA Pro-Am Four-Player Pro-Am Series. After the rescheduled Suter Ward Group at Morgan Stanley Pro-Am kicked off the month of July last week, the series made the trek to Stevens Point CC for the Wilson Golf Pro-Am.
It was the first time the series had made a stop in Stevens Point since SentryWorld hosted in 2018.
Another sold-out field of twenty-nine teams would enjoy the day. With a sketchy forecast, luckily the storms just missed the Stevens Point area and play went off with a hitch.
Flying up the leaderboard and earning the win was the foursome of Ryan Helminen, Matt Butch, Scott Merzlicker and Ze Vue. They carded a 19-under-par 125 to win by one shot over the Craig Czerniejewski led team. Each player did their part over the course of the day. In total they piled up eighteen net birdies and three net eagles.
The winning squad certainly has taken a liking to the one net and one gross best ball format, as they also claimed the win when it was in play at The Bull Pro-Am last year.
For Helminen his 38 stableford points would tie him with Matt Hartmann and Joe Leonard for the low professional victory. Each player would post a solid 2-under-par 70 to get to their point total.
The low senior professional contest was also closely contested, as Brad Lanning came out on top with 37 stableford points.
In addition to the standard contests, the event also featured some closest to the pin contests.
Taking home a brand new Wilson Golf Staff putter were:
#4 – Darryl Sorbo
#9 – Craig Podlesnik
The WPGA would like to express our gratitude to Wilson Golf and David Priebe. It marked the second straight season that Wilson has jumped on board for a WPGA pro-am and their enhancements certainly gave some nice added value to the day. Supporting partners, Harris Golf Cars and Elijah Craig Bourbon, also deserve a shout-out for their contributions to the event.
The section also wants to thank the membership and staff at Stevens Point CC for hosting. The course was in great shape and is really starting to show its maturity after being renovated several years ago.
