Another fantastic week of golf, fun and camaraderie was enjoyed by the field of the WPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am this past week. The 240 attendees were greeted with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s as they teed it up for rounds of golf at Reflection Bay GC, Spanish Trail CC (Canyon/Lakes) and SouthShore GC. Away from the course they enjoyed New York New York as their host hotel, and started their week with a fun evening at Hard Rock Live with the Morgan Stanley Welcome Party.
On the competition side of things it was Naga-Waukee GC PGA Teaching Professional Kurt Mantyla, along with amateurs Brad Bayerlein, Peter Haise, Brett Swanson and Ken Schinner of The Legend Clubs capturing the overall team title. The hot play for the winning squad started on Monday during the first round and continued all the way until the end. They posted daily finishes of 1st, a tie for 3rd and finally another 1st within their group.
The fivesome entered the final round with just a one shot lead over two teams within group B. That lead quickly grew as they played an impressive round in the 1,2,3 net best ball format at Reflection Bay GC. On a day where the wind was the biggest challenge the squad piled up 13 net birdies, 2 net eagles and six natural birdies from Mantyla. The impressive play resulted in a 20-under-par 132 total and a five shot win in the daily format.
Combined with their two other daily scores they carded a 54-hole total of 55-under-par 383. The 383 score was good enough to provide them a 7 shot win and is the lowest mark by a winning team since 2007.
The winning team was truly shown the way by their team professional as Mantyla earned the top spot in the low professional stableford game on two of three days and a tie for 2nd on the other day.
Finishing as the runner-up team was Eddie Terasa led North Hills CC team of Rick Buser, Mike Lee, Dave Schuelke and Levi Lura with their 390 total, the lowest within group A. Just one shot behind the North Hills CC team in third place was the North Shore CC fivesome of Jason Rasmussen, John Barrett, Paul Clemins, David Teplin and Jeff Stephany.
The Wisconsin PGA would like to send out a big thank you to our three event partners that helped make it a fantastic week. The trio of Nike Golf (Chris Hammond), Morgan Stanley (Vince Suter) and TaylorMade Golf (Steve Ploch & Eric Gitter) teamed up to really enhance the event and provide a great experience for all the attendees.
