The always fun Legend Challenge – Scratch Pro-Am made its return to the WPGA schedule on Tuesday. After last year’s event was canceled, the 2021 edition was bound to have a great field of talented golfers from throughout the section. In total, fifty-two teams would be fighting it out in the one better ball of two gross format.
The 2021 edition would mark the fourth time that The Legend at Bristlecone has hosted the event. In previous years it took scores of 59, 65 and 64 to win the challenge at the venue, so teams knew they had their work cut out for them. Adding to the challenge were steady winds of 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph on Tuesday.
Navigating their way past the strong field and tough conditions was the Morningstar GC/North Shore CC duo of Michael Crowley and John Fitzbibbon. The twosome combined to make eight birdies and just one bogey. They carded the only birdie on the day at the 197 yard par-3 fourth. Their 7-under-par 64 gave them a two shot win over the Brotchie/Aune and Mantyla/Rowe teams.
A big thank you goes out to Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles and the PGA Tour for their support of Tuesday’s event. In addition the WPGA would like to express its appreciation to The Legend Clubs for hosting the event for the 13th straight year.
