If he hadn’t broken his collarbone while playing junior hockey in the eighth grade, who knows where Max Lyons would be today? Back then, when he was playing travel baseball and Elite AAA hockey with the Jr. Coyotes in Phoenix, golf was something he did with his father on Sunday evenings. Nine holes. It has been another busy week of Wisconsin PGA tournaments. We take a look back to Tuesday and the return of our Assistant Professional Fall Classic.

The event was back on the WPGA calendar of events for the first time since 2015. With the influx of new PGA associates the event was ...certainly primed for a comeback.

Thirty-Seven Wisconsin PGA A-8 members and associates were in the field on Tuesday at Brown Deer Park GC. It marked the final individual assistant event of the season and for most of the players the last opportunity to grab some assistant player of the year points.

Heading out early in the tee time wave and setting the pace was Eau Claire Golf & Country Club's Cole Jahnke. The Stillwater, Minnesota native would card a 2-under-par 69. His round was highlighted by avoiding the big number and birdieing three of the gettable par 5s at Brown Deer Park GC. The former UW-Eau Claire player would make four birdies and two bogeys on the way to the win.

Jahnke is in his second season as a PGA associate at Eau Claire Golf & Country Club after finishing up an impressive Division three golfing career. During his time at UW-Eau Claire he was recognized as a third team All-American once and honorable mention All-American twice.

Finishing in a tie for second place just one shot back was David Bach and Wyatt Wilderman.

The WPGA would like to thank Milwaukee County Parks Golf and Brown Deer Park GC for playing host to the event.

The 40th Wisconsin State Senior Open came to a close yesterday afternoon at North Shore Golf Club in Menasha. It was another beautiful day for golf along the shores of Lake Winnebago, as the final day of the championship played out.

With multiple players in the mix throughout the day, ...there was plenty of drama to go around. That is until Mick Smith's rock-solid play down the stretch would help him secure his first Wisconsin State Senior Open. The native Australian would play his final 11 holes at 4-under-par to push his competitors aside.

His rounds of 69 and 68 would give him a 3-under-par 137 total. Leaving him as the only player in the field under par. Michael Crowley, Brad Lanning and Derek Stendahl would challenge Smith throughout the day but ultimately come up three shots short of the winning total.

Finishing in a tie for fifth at plus-2 was low amateur JT Johnson and Brookfield native Tim Cantwell Jr.

A big thank you goes out to everyone at North Shore Golf Club. The course was in primetime shape and once again proved to be a major championship worthy venue.

We'd also like to express our appreciation to our Wisconsin State Open Series partners for another great year - The Suter Ward Group At Morgan Stanley, Sentry and TaylorMade Golf.

Gary D'Amato and Jim Kelsh of Wisconsin.Golf give you the rundown of how the action unfolded. Gary through his writing and Jim through his lens.
