Making its eighth annual appearance on the WPGA tournament calendar the Double Dip Pro-Am brought together another sold out pro-am field on Monday. This year’s edition was title sponsored by X Golf Madison & Middleton and hosted by Maple Bluff Country Club.
The always fun event features dual team formats with plenty of action to go around. Each foursome competed in a two of four net best ball event, while the professional in each group was paired up with each of their amateurs in a one of two net best ball contest.
Topping the board in this year’s four-player contest was the University Ridge GC group of Ryan Wieme, Phil Davidson, Paul Herrick and Eric Johnson. On a windy and difficult day they posted an impressive 15-under-par 127 score. They played eleven holes under par and only gave back strokes on three of remaining seven holes. Their score was good enough to win by one shot over the Brad Peck, Craig Czerniejewski and Ryan Helminen led groups. For Wieme, Peck and Czerniewski the team performance would help them earn a spot into the year-end Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship.
In the one of two net contest it was Czerniejewski and Craig Podlesnik bringing home the win with a 9-under-par 62. They were propelled to the victory by five natural birdies by Czerniejewski and six net birdies by Podlesnik.
The low pro game would find Czerniejewski at the top the standings once again. His 1-under-par 70 would help him hold off Helminen by one shot, and give him the only 18-hole round under par in the field. In the low senior pro contest it would be Mark Voeller and John Freeman tying for first place with 3-over-par 73s.
In addition the day also featured some action on the par 3s for the amateur contestants. Knocking it close and taking home some free X Golf play and a dozen golf balls were;
#4 – Derek Laczniak
#6 – Jason Gaare
#11 – Sam Van Galder
#14 – Josh Barchus
