(David Roesch, Jim Rawski, Carl Anderson & Jay Johnson)
The storms stayed away just long enough for the sold out field of 112 players to complete our annual trip to Destination Kohler on Monday. This year’s field was able to enjoy a muggy day on the always fun Irish Course at Whistling Straits. Once again the course was in fantastic shape and proved to be another great host site for one the WPGA’s most sought after pro-ams. This year’s event was in so much demand that it sold out more than three months in advance.
The warm and humid day gave players the green light to shoot right at the hole locations. Taking advantage of those conditions the best were the David Roesch and Joe Stadler led squads. Each team was able to post the incredible 24-under-par 120 mark in the two net best ball format. The scores were five strokes better than any of the winning marks at the Destination Kohler WPGA pro-ams in the past six years. Teaming up with Roesch were Carl Anderson, Jim Rawski and Jay Johnson. On Stadler’s squad it was Dave Halverson, Tim Halverson and Craig Podlesnik.
In the low professional game it was Mick Smith of Washington County GC leading the way. The Australian was able to post an impressive 5-under-par 31 on the back nine en route to his 67. Finishing just one shot off the pace was Ryan Helminen.
Leading the senior professionals was Charlie Brown, with a 2-under-par 70.
In addition to the standard contests the day also featured some great Callaway Golf sponsored closest to the pin contests. Taking home the prizes were
#3 – Ryan Isherwood – Callaway Duffel
#6 – Irv Hirschfeld – Ogio Duffel
#11 – Carl Anderson – Callaway Mack Daddy 56 Degree Wedge
#13 – Jason Gaare – Callaway Mack Daddy 60 Degree Wedge
Helping make the day possible were event partners Callaway Golf and Bushnell Golf. The two companies did a great job of enhancing several aspects of the event and making sure all the attendees got a great value. The WPGA would like to thank both of the companies and their representatives for the continued support.
The WPGA would also like to thank everyone at Destination Kohler and Whistling Straits for being a great host. It is always a special day and first class experience when the Section can venture to one their 100 top ranked courses for a pro-am.
