(Marty Bonneson, John Lukas, Brian Brodell & Nick Vangrinsven)
After almost a four-month wait the 2023 TaylorMade Pro-Am was finally able to be completed on Tuesday at Oconomowoc Golf Club. Originally scheduled for May 1, the first go round featured a postponement due to some awful spring weather.
For everyone’s sake, sunny and breezy on Tuesday was a whole lot better than the cold and sleet that showed up on May 1.
Only one team that originally had intended on playing canceled after the event was postponed. They were quickly replaced and a sold-out field would enjoy a great day on the Donald Ross layout.
Picking up right where they left off in October was the foursome of Brian Brodell, Marty Bonneson, John Lukas and Nick Vangrinsven. After earning a share of the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship title for the third straight season, the Golf Galaxy Appleton / Butte des Morts Country Club team earned another victory on Tuesday.
Playing the one net and one gross best ball format, the group would get off to a solid start. However, when the tournament was on the line they would close strong and eventually take the lead for good. They would play their final nine holes at 10-under-par. During this stretch Brodell would lead the way with five natural birdies.
The closing stretch would propel them to a 17-under-par 123 total. Good enough for a three shot win over the Paul LoCicero led team from The Legend Clubs.
As for Brodell he would end up shooting a 6-under-par 64 and piling up 42 stableford points. The total turned out to be good enough for a four-point win over the low senior professional on the day, Mark Voeller.
Once again with the help of our event partners the WPGA was able to roll out some great prizes for closest to the pin events. At stake were some TaylorMade MG4 wedges and a Vessel Tito’s golf bag.
Taking home some new merchandise were:
#4 – Earl Hansen
#6 – Dan Wolfe
#12 – Sami Mantyla
#17 – Bryan Hollowell
A big thank you goes out once again to our event partners, TaylorMade Golf, the American Family Insurance Championship and Tito’s Vodka. The trio of companies teamed up to present a first class day for all the attendees.
The WPGA would like also like to recognize and thank everyone at Oconomowoc GC. The club and its members were gracious enough to shutdown the course on a non-Monday in order to have the rescheduled event.
