(Ryan Helminen & Bob Mandoli)
Making its annual appearance on the Wisconsin PGA tournament calendar on Monday was the always fun Double Dip Pro-Am. A participant favorite, the event always delivers an exciting day with plenty of action.
This year’s edition was title sponsored by X Golf Madison & Middleton for a second straight year, while playing host was the highly rated Wild Rock Golf Club.
The event would again feature dual team formats. Each foursome would be participating in a two net best ball event, then the professional on the team would be paired up with each amateur in a one net of two game.
Coming out on top in the four-player contest was The Oaks GC foursome of Joe Leonard, Doug Leonard, Tom Welch and Brian Wilsey. The squad was able to put up an impressive 19-under-par 125 score to claim a three shot win. It marked the second straight pro-am win for Joe and Doug Leonard.
With Leonard already qualified for the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship, all three spots up for grabs would go to the next highest finishers. Earning those spots were the Ryan Helminen, Michael Crowley and Charlie Brown led teams.
For Helminen not only would he help his four-player squad to a nice finish, he’d also get his two-player teams with Bob Mandoli and Chris Lindberg to tie at the top. Each two-player team would post a 10-under-par 62 in the one net of two contest. Mandoli would grab the bragging rights though over Lindberg as he’d take home the two-player division crown via a scorecard playoff.
In the low pro and senior pro contests it’d be Brad Peck sweeping the board. He’d card a 5-under-par 67, which included seven birdies.
In addition the day also featured some action on the par 3s for the amateur contestants. Knocking it close and taking home some free X Golf play and a dozen golf balls were;
#4 – Cory Savage
#9 – Mike Jakubowski
#11 – Jim Sell
#15 – Mike Preisler
A big thank you goes out to all our event partners from the Double Dip Pro-Am. With the support of X Golf Madison & Middleton, Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles, and Under Armour Golf, the event featured all the perks that were needed to give the players a first class event.
The WPGA would also like to express our gratitude to everyone at Wild Rock GC. The course was in great shape and proved why it is one of the top draws in the state when it comes to public golf.
