On to the Midwest Regional at The Beloit Club

Join me in congratulating the Legend Clubs All Star team, led by Paul LoCicero, PGA, for their victory yesterday at University Ridge Golf Course! Their win moves them on to the next stage-the Midwest Regional at The Beloit Club on September 15-16. Enjoy the wrap up article below.

The PGA Jr. League Wisconsin Section Championship presented by National Car Rental concluded yesterday, August 26, at University Ridge Golf Course. The Final Four was broken up into two rounds starting at 1:30pm. All contestants played their matches on holes 10-18 at #URidge. For more on the format of PGA Jr. League, visit www.pgajrleague.com.

The first semi-final match was between North Shore 2 (made up of All Stars representing North Hills CC, North Shore CC, River Club of Mequon, Milwaukee CC and Missing Links) and Appleton (All Stars coming from High Cliff GC, North Shore GC, Butte Des Morts CC, and Ridgeway CC). Gus Pick of North Hills CC was the Captain of North Shore 2, while Appleton was led by Corey Feller, PGA of High Cliff GC. Kari Wachtl, PGA of Butte Des Morts CC assisted Corey in coaching the Appleton team.

The second semi-final match consisted of The Legend Clubs (made up of All Stars representing The Legend at Bristlecone, Bergamont, Brandybrook and Merrill Hills). PGA Professional Paul LoCicero (The Legend at Bristlecone) served as Captain. They took on Madison 2 (comprised of Cherokee CC, The Meadows of Sixmile Creek, Lake Windsor, Bishops Bay CC, and Maple Bluff CC) with Bo Sirianni, PGA (Cherokee CC) as their All Star Captain.

After a thirty minute inclement weather delay, the two semi-final matches were still neck and neck. In conclusion, North Shore 2 edged Appleton 7-5, and the second matchup resulted in the same score as the Legend Clubs defeated the Madison North team 7-5. The close scores showcase the depth these forty All Stars carried into the Final Four.

The Championship match started at 6:15pm, and while daylight proved to be a concern, the All Stars remained mentally tough despite soggy conditions. The Championship match ended with a convincing 6-2 win from The Legend Clubs over North Shore 2. The Competition Committee was forced to shorten the Championship Match to 2 flags as opposed to 3 because of weather and daylight.

The Legend Clubs advance to the Midwest Regional going up against the Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska All Star teams in a round robin style at The Beloit Club on Saturday, September 15th. A second round will be played that afternoon, with the final round early Sunday morning. The team with the best overall record advances to the National Finals held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ in the middle of November.

More pictures will be posted to our Junior Foundation and Section’s Facebook page in the coming days. We look forward to cheering on The Legend Clubs come September!
