The PGA Jr. League Wisconsin Section Championship presented by National Car Rental concluded earlier this week at The Legend at Bergamont in Oregon, Wisconsin. The Final Four was broken up into two rounds starting at 11:00am. All contestants played their matches on holes 1-9 at Bergamont. For more on the format of PGA Jr. League, visit www.pgajrleague.com.

The first semi-final match was between Janesville-Beloit (made up of All Stars representing Glen Erin GC, Janesville CC, Oak Ridge GC, Koshkonong Mounds CC, Beloit Club and Ironworks Golf Lab) and the Chippewa Valley All Stars (made up of All Stars representing Eau Claire G&CC, Lake Hallie Golf and Mill Run). PGA Professional Travis Becker (Beloit Club) served as Captain for Janesville-Beloit along with help from Assistant Coach Andrea Wieland. Leading the Chippewa Valley All Stars as Captain was Tyler Bohmke (Eau Claire G&CC).

The second semi-final match consisted of The Legend Clubs (made up of All Stars representing The Legend at Bristlecone, Bergamont, Brandybrook and Merrill Hills) and Appleton (All Stars coming from High Cliff GC, North Shore GC, Butte Des Morts CC, and Ridgeway CC).  Appleton was led by Marcus Holtz of High Cliff Golf Course while PGA Professional Paul LoCicero (Bristlecone) captained The Legend Clubs

Despite a late start, the Semi Final round wrapped up around 1:30pm. The Legend Clubs defeated Appleton 9.5 to 2.5 and Janesville-Beloit nipped Chippewa Valley 8 to 4.  The Championship match started at 2:30pm and despite the long day, the All Stars remained mentally tough and played really great golf! The Final Round consisted of four matches and all were extremely close–showing the depth of the All Star teams. Ultimately, The Legend Clubs edged Janesville-Beloit by a one point margin — 6.5 to 5.5. Congratulations to both teams for a well-fought match.

The Legend Clubs advance to the Midwest Regional going up against the Michigan, Illinois and  All Star teams in a round robin style at The Beloit Club on Saturday, September 14th.  A second round will be played that afternoon, with the final round early Sunday morning. The team with the best overall record advances to the National Finals held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ  in October.

More pictures will be posted to our Junior Foundation and Section’s Facebook page in the coming days. We look forward to cheering on The Legend Clubs come September!
