SPRING PRO-LADIES
EVENT PARTNER

The WPGA Pro-Ladies #1 – Spring Event made its annual appearance on the calendar of events on Tuesday.  With summer just another the corner a sold-out field of twenty-four fivesomes would venture to Bishops Bay CC to enjoy the day. It would mark the second time that the club has hosted a pro-ladies event, with the first coming in 2017.

The participants would be greeted with a terrific spring day along the shores of Lake Mendota. A light breeze, temperatures in the mid-80s, and plenty of sunshine would accompany the players during their round.

With ideal weather and great course conditions it would take an impressive score to get the win. For the second straight year local knowledge would also play a key role for the winning team.

Taking home this year’s title was the Bishops Bay CC team of John Shipshock, Jessie Gulden, Kelly Gustafson, Tiffany Nickel and Leslie Even. The group would get off to a slow start but then catch fire on their final eight holes. They would end up playing that stretch in 11-under-par.

Leading the way for the group was Shipshock and Gulden, as they each would card 3-under-par 33s on the back-nine. The remaining team members would do their part also, as they’d combine to make nine net birdies during the eight-hole stretch.

In the end they would card a two net best ball score of 17-under-par 127. Finishing two shots back in a tie for second place were the defending champions from Nakoma GC and the Charlie Brown led Geneva National team.

For Brown his great play would carry over into the low professional stableford contests. He would shoot an impressive 7-under-par 65 and pile up 43 stableford points. The seven birdie no bogey performance would earn him the win in both the low pro and low senior pro contests.

In addition to the standard team contest and low pro events, the day would also feature some closest to the pin contests for the lady amateurs. Taking home some great prizes from Wilson Golf and the American Family Insurance Championship were:

#3 – Diane Meinecke
#8 – Patty Harsch
#10 – Patty Harsch
#17 – Tiffany Nickel

The WPGA would like to express our appreciation to Wilson Golf for supporting this year’s Pro-Ladies – Spring Event. In addition, a big thank you goes out to everyone at Bishops Bay CC for being a terrific host site.
