(Foy Swenson, Tim Halverson, Andy Sturmberg and Ron Fryer)
The Wisconsin PGA tournament schedule continued to cruise through the month of June on Monday. After weather got the best of the Four-Player Pro-Am Series a few weeks back at Bishops Bay CC, the series was back in action at Abbey Springs GC.
This year’s playing of the National Golf Graphics Pro-Am would bring together twenty-six foursomes to enjoy the always challenging track. It marked the first time the Peter Meyer sponsored event would venture to the Lake Geneva area.
This year’s format would again feature the always fun net stableford team game. Teams would have to be on top of their game as the format would take the top 3 net scores for the group on each hole. The point system awarded 1 point for a net bogey, 2 points for a net par, 4 points for a net birdie, 6 points for a net eagle and 8 points for a net double eagle or better.
Summer is synonymous with Lake Geneva and summer like conditions certainly popped up to greet the field. Warm, muggy and breezy conditions would provide quite the challenge throughout the day.
However, the challenging conditions would play right into the hands of the winning squad. Leading his team to the win was Foy Swenson of Golf Galaxy Greendale. Swenson would team up with Tim Halverson, Andy Sturmberg and Ron Fryer to earn 169 stableford points. Each player would do their part and accumulate at least 40 stableford points to their cause. Their total would give them the largest margin of victory in the ten-year history of the format. It truly was a blowout win.
In addition to the win the team also earned a coveted spot in the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. Claiming the other two available spots were the Scott Kesling and Joe Weber led squads.
The day also featured low amateur, low professional, low senior professional stableford events and some proxy contests on the Par 3s.
Claiming the wins were:
Low Professional Contest – Foy Swenson – 41 Points
Low Senior Professional Contest – Foy Swenson – 41 Points
Low Amateur Contest – Ron Fryer – 53 Points
Closest to the Pin #2 (Pros) – Joe Weber
Closest to the Pin #6 (Pros) – Scott LeMire
Closest to the Pin #11 (Amateurs) – Paul Larkin
Closest to the Pin #15 (Amateurs) – Kris Barber

A big thank you once again goes out to Peter Meyer and National Golf Graphics. Peter helped put together another great event and his gracious support offered the players plenty of enhancements to enjoy.
We’d also like to express our appreciation to everyone at Abbey Springs GC. The club provided first-class service throughout the day and gave the players a well-conditioned golf course to experience.
