The Wisconsin PGA teamed up with the Wisconsin Golf Course Superintendents Association to present the Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles Super-Pro for the 24th time on Wednesday. This year’s edition would visit first-time host, River Club of Mequon. It marked the fourth straight year the event had taken place in the metro Milwaukee area.
After attendance reached trip digits for the first time last year, it was hard to believe that 2025 would deliver an even larger field. A sold-out field of 112 players would prove that the 2024 attendance wasn’t a fluke.
Of the 56 teams in the field, half were eligible for the traditional division of play, featuring one WPGA affiliated professional and one WGCSA member with the same official club affiliation. While the other half participated in the second division of play, featuring all other teams including a pro/super team that did not have a handicap index.
Once again, the teams in the field were playing the interesting Modified Chapman Alternate Shot format. Resulting in a day filled with team members leaving their teammate in precarious spots from time to time. After their 18-hole gross score was complete, teams then received 50% of their combined handicap index to create the net team score. Handicaps were rounded up to the nearest tenth if necessary.
Making their way to the top of the leaderboard in division one was the South Hills G&CC duo of Luke Scharf and Jim VanHerwynen. The twosome was able to get over the hump in their 10th try at the title. They had made a run in previous years but came up short with multiple runner-up finishes. Wednesday’s gross score of 79 was the first time they’d been able to break 80 in the event. After subtracting the team handicap, they were left with a 65.8 net score. Good enough to win by 1.1 shots.
It marks the second Super-Pro title for VanHerwynen as he also was victorious with Don DuCheateau back in 2006.
In this year’s second division of play, the Destination Geneva National squad of Sam Klobucar and Brian Johnson would earn the win. They would tie for the low gross mark of the day with a 1-under-par 71. After taking 3.3 off their total, they would post a 67.7 net score. Enough to win by .8 shots.
A big congrats also goes out to Aaron Hansen of Wausau CC. Hansen knocked in a hole-in-one on the 123-yard 8th-hole on the river nine.
A big thank you goes out again to Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles. The company was on board to support the event for the 14th time and their support is always very much appreciated by the field.
The WPGA and WGCSA would like to say thank you to everyone at the River Club of Mequon. The staff did a great job of hosting. They provided top notch service throughout the day and made sure all the attendees had a great experience.
