The stage is set and SentryWorld is ready to put on a great show for the best golfers in the world 50 and over. It has been approximately two and half years since the the USGA awarded the U.S. Senior Open to SentryWorld and the event week is finally here.
The course has previously held the 1986 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior and numerous WSGA and WPGA championships. Later this August they will also host the 103rd Suter Ward Group at Morgan Stanley Wisconsin State Open.
The U.S. Senior Open will run from Thursday-Saturday, June 29-July 2.
Over 3,000 entries were accepted for this year’s championship. The final field includes 156 of those individuals.
Navigating their way through local qualifying and representing the Wisconsin PGA are Brad Lanning and Mick Smith. Smith was medalist with an even-par 72 and Lanning was runner-up with a 1-over 73 at the Stevens Point CC May 26 qualifier. It will be the first major championship for each of them.
Joining the two WPGA professionals in the field will be Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly. The PGA Tour Champions stars are currently no. 1 and no. 10 on the Charles Schwab Money list.
Finally the last player with Wisconsin ties is former Fitchburg resident Miles McConnell. The current Floridian previously won multiple WSGA championships when he resided here.
