(PJ Murphy, Calvin Kruschek, Larry Paul and John Shipshock)

The foursome of John Shipshock, PJ Murphy, Calvin Kruschek, and Larry Paul captured the title at the Wisconsin PGA National Golf Graphics Pro-Am on Monday, June 1, at Bishops Bay Country Club, finishing six points clear of the field.

The sold-out event featured 29 teams competing in a team Stableford format. On each hole, the three lowest net scores from each foursome counted toward the team total. The scoring system awarded 0 points for a net double bogey or worse, 1 point for a net bogey, 2 points for a net par, 4 points for a net birdie, 6 points for a net eagle, and 8 points for a net double eagle or better.

Representing the host club, the Bishops Bay Country Club team of Shipshock, Murphy, Kruschek, and Paul piled up 157 Stableford points on the strength of 14 gross birdies. Consistent scoring throughout the round allowed the quartet to separate themselves from the competition and secure a convincing victory.

Leading the charge for the champions was Larry Paul, who topped the amateur leaderboard with 55 Stableford points. Paul’s outstanding play proved instrumental in the win, providing a steady stream of points, including a back-nine that featured five net birdies and a net eagle.

The victory also earned the Bishops Bay Country Club team a berth into the season-ending Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. Joining them in the championship field and also securing spots were the second-place and third-place teams led by John Knoll and Josh Grisa.

In the individual professional competition, home-course knowledge proved beneficial for Barrett Kelpin. The former University of Iowa golfer posted 53 Stableford points after firing an impressive 8-under-par 64. Kelpin’s round featured a blistering stretch on the back nine, where he recorded five birdies and an eagle over a seven-hole span to claim Low Professional honors.

Michael Crowley led the way in the Senior Professional division, recording 44 Stableford points to earn Low Senior Professional honors.

Par-3 contests added another layer of fun throughout the day. Steven Young claimed honors on No. 3, Michael Crowley on No. 8, Kou Xiong on No. 10, and Bill Bull on No. 17, each earning proxy prizes for knocking it close on those holes.

The Wisconsin PGA extends their sincere appreciation to National Golf Graphics and Elijah Craig Bourbon for its continued support of the Section and its members. The Wisconsin PGA also thanks the members, management, and staff at Bishops Bay Country Club for their outstanding hospitality and for providing a first-class venue for this year’s event.
