(Eric Sampson, Brent Neis, Andy Runkel & Kyle Trimble)
The Wisconsin PGA Four-Player Pro-Am Series was back on course on Monday, as the series made the trip to Kohler Golf for its annual event. With the Suter Ward Group at Morgan Stanley Wisconsin State Open taking place in August, the event would temporarily shift to mid-May. It marked the fifth time that the event would be played on the Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run.
Once again, the most popular pro-am on the WPGA schedule featured a sold-out field with several teams on the waitlist and was title sponsored by X Golf Milwaukee.
With windy and cold conditions, the players certainly had their work cut out for them. The four-player main contest had teams trying to put up their best two net score over the course of eighteen holes. Getting the job done and securing a four shot victory was the Andy Runkel, Kyle Trimble, Brent Neis and Eric Sampson group from The Bog. They ended up carding a 15-under-par 129 in the team format.
A hot front nine is where the group did most of the damage, as they played it at 10-under-par. Neis would pitch in three net birdies and net eagle to help them accomplish that.
It marked the second pro-am win for the group in their last three pro-am appearances dating back to last year.
In addition to the win, they also booked a return invitation to the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. They will be joined by the teams led by David Roesch and James Grogan, after their top 3 finishes.
Taking home the low professional crown on Monday was Brian Brodell. He posted a 3-under-par 69 to give him a winning total of 39 stableford points. Good enough to win by two points over Ryan Helminen and Roesch. As for the senior professional contest, it would be Roesch with the contest win.
In addition to the three main contests, the day would also feature some fun proxy contests on the par 3s for the amateurs. Taking home some great prizes via X Golf Milwaukee and the American Family Insurance Championship were:
#3 – Joe Duerr, #8 – Scott Harrington, #15 – Mike De Vries, #17 – Leif Knudsen
As always, the WPGA Four-Player Pro-Am Series would not be possible without the great support of our events partners. First and foremost, we’d like to thank title partner, X Golf Brookfield/AmFam Field/Mequon/Appleton. Additionally, our appreciation goes out to the American Family Insurance Championship, adidas Golf, Fairways to Heaven Golf Travel, and Tito’s Vodka for their contributions to the day.
Kohler Golf once again rolled out a great day for the attendees. It was another first-class offering that they are certainly known for. The Wisconsin PGA would like to say thank you once again to Kohler Golf for hosting. We are looking forward to a great Suter Ward Group at Morgan Stanley Wisconsin State Open in August.
