Nearly 1200 juniors throughout the Wisconsin PGA registered for Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifying this season. After a stretch of eight local qualifiers, 192 contestants earned a trip to the Sub-Regional stage at either University Ridge Golf Course (Verona, Wis.) or SentryWorld (Stevens Point). The competition heated up right from the beginning—knowing that two contenders in each age division, boys and girls, move on to the final qualifying stage at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, MN on Saturday, September 28th. From Interlachen, one boy and girl in each age division get the ultimate prize—competing against the best on the Sunday before the start of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National on April 5, 2020.
The field included participants from all over the state including Crandon, Green Bay, Milton, Milwaukee, and some ventured from North Carolina, Canada and Texas. Golfers get points based on how accurate their three Drive, Chip and Putt attempts are according to the grids at each station. The Wisconsin PGA awards medals to the top three point earners in each skill and overall. The top two overall point winners in each of the eight divisions continue the #Road2Augusta.
After each participant in their age group finishes the competition, the Awards Ceremony takes place shortly thereafter. Players were reminded each qualifying stage gets more difficult, to celebrate the good and the bad shots, and improve upon these three fundamentals for better golf games. Moving on to Interlachen:
