More than 70 Wisconsin PGA professionals teed it up Monday, June 29, at Lawsonia’s Woodlands Course for the annual WPGA Stableford Classic. On a hot, humid, and breezy day, birdies and eagles were the name of the game as the modified Stableford scoring system rewarded aggressive play and gave competitors every reason to chase red numbers.
Playing in the second group of the day, Barrett Kelpin of Bishops Bay Country Club posted the clubhouse lead with 27 Stableford points after carding a 4-under-par 68 that featured five birdies and just one bogey. A few hours later, Mike Nagy of TPC Wisconsin matched Kelpin’s total with an identical 4-under 68, also highlighted by five birdies and one bogey.
With both players no longer on site at the conclusion of play, a playoff was not conducted, and Nagy and Kelpin were declared co-champions of the 2026 WPGA Stableford Classic. For Nagy, it marked the second consecutive one-day Classic in which he claimed low Class A PGA Member honors, further strengthening his position atop the Wisconsin PGA Member Player of the Year standings.
Finishing one point back in a three-way tie for third with 26 Stableford points were Max Hosking, Michael Crowley, and defending champion Cody Strang. Crowley also earned low senior professional honors with his showing.
The modified Stableford format awarded -1 point for double bogey or worse, 0 for bogey, 1 for par, 3 for birdie, 5 for eagle, and 7 for double eagle or better.
The Woodlands Course proved to be an outstanding venue for the Stableford format, as its tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and quick greens rewarded aggressive play while still demanding precision.
With only one remaining one-day stroke play event left on the calendar, the focus now shifts squarely to the remaining major championships as the season-long Player of the Year races heat up.
The Wisconsin PGA extends its sincere appreciation to Lawsonia for hosting an outstanding WPGA Stableford Classic on the Woodlands Course. The Association also thanks its valued event partners—Oliphant Golf Management, TaylorMade Golf, StickX Golf, Under Armour Golf, and Hole-In-One USA—for their continued support and contributions.
