(Ben Fahrenholz, Steve Syrjala, Dustin Schwab and Derek Wathke)

A hotly contested battle for the Laser Link Golf Pro-Am crown took place at Maple Bluff CC on Monday. A sold out field of 32 foursomes from throughout the state tried to tame the traditional tree lined track, as gusty winds made scoring quite the challenge.

The tough conditions and premium on accuracy produced nine teams finishing within five shots of the winning score. Finding their way to top in the tight competition was the Prestwick Golf Group squad of Ben Fahrenholz, Steve Syrjala, Dustin Schwab and Derek Wathke and also the Storm’s Golf Range team of David Roesch, Jim Rawski, Vince Suter and Grace Suter. The foursomes both posted a 15-under-par 127 mark in the one net and one gross best ball format, however the Prestwick Golf Group was able to earn bragging rights and the first place Sterling Cut Glass trophies through a scorecard playoff. Along with the hardware came a spot in the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship in October.

With the Roesch squad having already claimed a Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship spot at a previous pro-am, there was two spots left up for grabs. Taking home the other two spots after a scorecard playoff was the Brook Schmitt led Foxboro GC squad and the Jason Samuelian Meadowbrook CC team.

In the low professional and low senior professional events it was Charlie Brown of Geneva National GC sweeping the board. His 2-under-par 69 was the only professional score under par and was good enough to win by two shots over Gordon Heffernan and Michael Crowley.

Also up for grabs were some great proxy prizes on the par 3s and a final drawing for the American Family Insurance Championship Par 3 Grand Prize Giveaway. Firing it close to the flagstick on Monday were winners Jason Allen, Ze Vue and Joe Dunne. Dunne was also fortunate to have his number be called as the Grand Prize winner which helped him pocket some great golf, a chance to take in the PGA Champions Tour event in person and a terrific pair of new sunglasses.

A big part of making it a fantastic day for all the attendees was the support from event partner, Laser Link Golf and a great host facility in Maple Bluff CC. The twosome teamed up to put on a terrific show. The WPGA would like to express its appreciation to all the individuals at Laser Link Golf and Maple Bluff CC that had a hand in the event.
