A field of ninety-six WPGA professionals made the trek south to enjoy the Callaway Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball on Monday.  Players were treated to some great spring weather while they tackled the challenging tree lined Abbey Springs GC layout.  The event also marked the first event of the year where players played their own ball, after opening up the season last week with a scramble format.  Monday’s field was made up of eighty PGA members in an active classification, eleven associates, two life members, two pre-associates and one reserve member.

Knocking it out of the park and taking it low was the duo of Craig Czerniejewski and Mick Smith.  The Washington County GC squad was able to notch a four shot win in the four-ball stroke play format.  Their hot play started right off the bat as they went eight under par on their first eleven holes.  When all eighteen holes were completed the twosome was able to post a 9-under-par 63.  All told they carded ten birdies and just one bogey.

Finishing in the runner-up position was Kraig Joy of Ridgeway CC and Tom Burton of Hidden Glen GC.  In third place just one more shot back was Andy Barrett and Mike Miezin with a 68.

In addition to the main four-ball stroke play event the day also doubled as qualifying for the year-long Four-Ball Match Play Championship.  The optional qualifying competition featured 39 teams vying for the 32 spots.  With their play Czerniejewski and Smith were also able to claim the top seed in the event.  A full list of teams that qualified is located by visiting the results link below.

Once again another successful WPGA pro-pro would not have been possible without the help of a great collection of sponsors.  The Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball was presented by Callaway Golf (Del Kolasinski) and co-sponsored by Bushnell Golf (Tracy Lick) and AfterShokz (Brian Fagan).  A big thank you goes out to all three companies for helping make it great day.

The WPGA would also like to recognize Abbey Springs GC and their staff for the effort they put into hosting.  The club did a very nice job of presenting a great product on and off the course.
