SPRING PRO-PRO
BETTER BALL
EVENT PARTNERS

(Jim Gaugert of Harris Golf Cars, Doug Mortola & Mark Voeller)

After being snowed out just a week ago the WPGA tournament season was able to get underway Monday with the playing of the Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball event. Forty-seven two player squads of WPGA members, associates and pre-associates made the trek to just outside Madison to enjoy Door Creek Golf Course. The teams were glad to see plenty of grass and only small traces of snow as they dusted off the clubs.

Leading the way in the four ball stroke play competition was the Golf Galaxy duo of Doug Mortola and Mark Voeller. The twosome was able to post a bogey free 7-under-par 64 en route to the title. Highlighting their scorecard was five birdies and and an eagle on the Par-5, 4th hole. Their eagle came at the end of a birdie, birdie, eagle stretch and was just one of four that was carded on that hole throughout the day. The win marked the first time that the duo had teamed up to win a WPGA pro-pro. It also helped Mortola and Voeller claim the #1 seed overall in the year-long WPGA Four-Ball Match Play Championship.

Finishing just one shot behind the victors in a tie for second was Keith Buntrock and Andy Hansen and also John Gaschke and Ryan Helminen.

In addition to the team competition the day also provided the unlikely result of no winners in the skin game. The decision was then made to randomly draw four winners and split the prize pool. Taking home a little extra money by luck of the draw was the foursomes of David Albrecht/Mark Kolb, Gunnar Stapp/Matt Kennedy, Milt Kodl/Joe Weitz and James Kelly/Nate Laird

The Wisconsin PGA would like to thank Harris Golf Cars (Scott Harris & Jim Gaugert) and Bushnell Golf (Tracy Lick) for teaming up once again to support the Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball. The two companies helped to roll out another great day for all the attendees, including a nice purse and also a yummy spread of Mexican food to wrap it up.

The WPGA would also like to thank everyone at Door Creek GC for their efforts in conjunction with hosting the Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball. The club staff along with their maintenance crew did a great job of preparing the course/facility in such a short time frame after last week’s snowfall.
