It was a chilly finish to the in-state tournament schedule for the Wisconsin PGA on Monday at Butte des Morts CC.  A hearty group of 44 – twosomes made the trek to Appleton to have a little Fall Pro-Pro Scramble fun.

Scrambling their way to the top spot and posting a solid 9-under-par 61 was the duo of Mick Smith and Mark Voeller.  The twosome set the pace by putting together a great stretch of play that included seven birdies and an eagle in eleven holes.  The run was good enough to propel them to a two shot victory over Jim Kjellenberg and Joe DeRosa.  The win provides some redemption for the duo after they came up short in a playoff at last year’s season ending scramble at The Oaks GC.

With the support of the event partners the Section put together another fun side game to help make things a little more interesting.  The Let’s Go Streaking Bonus Game matched teams up via a random draw to form four player squads.  Those squads then set out to see how many holes in a row they could make birdie or better.  The team that put together the longest streak would take home the pot of $500.  Earning the best streak was the foursome of Bryan Brotchie, Andrew Troyanek, John Bailey and Brad Munn.  The foursome put together a streak of five holes to grab the win (Holes 17, 18, 1, 2 and 3).

Adding another little something extra on to the day was PGA member and Northern Waters Distillery owner Peter Nomm.  Nomm was nice enough to provide prizes for the players that knocked it closest on the par 3s.  Earning those prizes were Justin Fox #5, Garrett Mack #7, Matt Kersten #12 and Scott Price #17.

The WPGA would like to thank Harris Golf Cars, Earth Networks and Yamaha Golf & Utility for their sponsorship of the event and the aforementioned side game.  The trio of companies along with their representatives helped provide all the support that was needed to put on a top notch event.

A great deal of appreciation also goes out to the membership and staff at Butte des Morts CC.  The club did a very nice job of hosting, which included a well conditioned golf course, tasty Italian spread of food afterwards and first class service.
