After almost a two month delay it was finally time for the TaylorMade & adidas Golf Pro-Am on Monday. Originally scheduled for late April the event had to be postponed due to inclement weather. The delay ended up producing an additional three teams and a sold out field of 116 players made their way to Beloit Club. The players were greeted with some hot and humid conditions but the golf course was in great shape and the day was prime for scoring.
Catching fire and leaving the field in the dust was the Ridgeway Country Club team of Scott LeMire, Gary Van Eperen, Nate Pronschinske and Jim Van Vonderen. The foursome produced a 21-under-par 123 total in the one net, one gross best ball format. Their play was so solid that they did not play one hole over par. The score was good enough to win by four shots over the Morningstar GC team. For their play the winning team earned an invitation into the year end Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. Grabbing the other two spots were the aforementioned Morningstar GC team and third place finishers representing TaylorMade & adidas along with Geneva National GC.
Taking the top spot in the low professional game of the day was Mark Voeller. The 2009 WPGA Match Play champion was able to post a 5-under-par 67, good enough to win by 3 shots. In the over 50 crowd it was John Freeman leading the way with a 1-under-par 71.
In addition the the primary contests the day also featured some great closest to the pin events with prizes provided by TaylorMade & adidas Golf. Knocking it close and winning those items were,
#3 – Travis Frea, #7 – Bruce Jorgensen, #10 – Bill Sullivan and #16 – Chris Lindberg
A big thank you goes out to TaylorMade and adidas Golf for their continued support of the annual pro-am. The companies along with their representatives once again did a fantastic job of dressing up the event. They truly help make the pro-am one of the can’t miss events on the schedule.
The WPGA would also like to express our gratitude to the Beloit Club and their staff. The club made the rescheduling process very easy, and they had the course in terrific shape for the event.
