Emmet Herb & Mike Higgins
As the calendar turned to October, the end of the Wisconsin PGA tournament season was in sight. Last Monday’s contest featured the first of back-to-back Fall Pro-Pros to close of the year. This year the Better Ball came first, as forty-eight two-player teams teed it up at Pleasant View GC on the woods and lake nines.
It turned out to be a cool and overcast day, but the autumn weather didn’t hold the field back from putting up some impressive numbers.
Emmet Herb and Mike Higgins of Blackhawk CC jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
The Fall Pro-Pro Better Ball Champions set the pace both on the scoreboard and the course.
As the first group out, Herb got the twosome going with three birdies and an eagle on their first eight holes of the woods course. Higgins joined the fun with his own back-to-back birdies on final hole of the woods nine and first hole of the lake nine.
With a lead in hand, the duo then closed out their final eight holes on the lake nine by combining for 3 more birdies and an eagle.
Their 11-under-par 60 was good enough to hold on for a one stroke win over Mike Nagy and Drew Ringelstetter.
Finishing in third place, two shots back were Barrett Kelpin and Brent Wileman.
In addition to the main contest, the day also featured some fun closest to the pin contests, sponsored by Evolve Golf and Elijah Craig. Firing one close and taking home a great prize were:
#2 Woods – Joe Leonard ($100)
#7 Woods – Austin Elsner ($100)
#4 Lake – Tyler Wood (Elijah Craig Push Cart)
#7 Lake – David Bach ($100)
The WPGA would like to express our appreciation to our collection of event partners, Harris Golf Cars, Evolve Golf, Cobra Puma Golf, Elijah Craig Bourbon and Sterling Cut Glass. Between all five companies, they helped provide some great giveaways and some meaningful dollars to the purse.
We’d also like to thank Pleasant View GC and their staff for hosting. The club rolled out a great after-play food spread and was also nice enough to give back some of the player fees to PGA Reach Wisconsin.
