After inclement weather derailed the first event on the WPGA calendar last week, the season was able to finally get underway with the Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball on Monday. For the second time in three years the event produced a sold-out field, featuring fifty-two teams. It also marked the third year in a row that the tournament has visited Beloit Club.
Making themselves at home once again was the Kohler Golf duo of David Bach and Josh Grisa. The twosome has been a dominant force in WPGA pro-pros the past three years, and their play on Monday added to an already impressive resume.
Starting on the back nine, Bach would get the twosome off to a hot start as he would birdie five of his first six holes. Included in the stretch were birdies on two of the four hardest handicap holes on the course, the par-4 13th and 14th. They would make the turn at 5-under-par 31.
With pars on the first three holes on the front side, the group would leave the door open for their chasers to make a move. That opportunity would be short lived though as they’d finish off their round with three more birdies on their final six holes. In the end their 8-under-par 64 better ball would deliver them a three shot win over two teams. Finishing in a tie for second would be Craig Czerniejewski and Mick Smith, along with Jason Brindowski and Wyatt Wilderman.
The victory marked the third straight year that Bach and Grisa has either won or shared the top spot at the Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball. In addition to their three Spring Pro-Pro Better Ball wins, the twosome also owns victories at the 2021 Fall Pro-Pro Better Ball and the 2022 Four-Ball Match Play.
Along with holding bragging rights for another year, the duo took home $650 each and the no. 1 seed in this year’s WPGA Four-Ball Match Play Championship.
The WPGA would like to thank our event partners for their sponsorship of Monday’s event. The trio of companies provided plenty of support to make it was a first-class day. Supporting the event once again was Harris Golf Cars, Bushnell Golf and Homestretch Golf.
A great deal of appreciation also goes out to Beloit Club and their staff for hosting. The club has embraced the chance to host this particular event each of the past three years.
