The Wisconsin PGA 4-player pro-am series hit the road again on Monday as this week’s trip took the series to Green Bay for the X Golf Oneida Pro-Am. Twenty-eight teams from throughout the section were looking to card a top notch score on the tricky old school layout.

This week’s team format featured the always challenging one net / one gross best ball format. The format graciously provides playing handicaps at 100%, but the key is if a team can avoid giving back strokes on the gross ball.

Finding the perfect recipe for success in the format was the Geneva National Resort & Club team of Charlie Brown, Sam Osborne, Tom Baird and Chad Miller. The squad would be led by Osborne as the former professional golfer would card a 6-under-par 66 on his own ball. The newly reinstated amateur would go bogey free and pile up five birdies on the back nine en route to the score. Combined with some great play from his fellow team members, the winning foursome was able to post a 17-under-par 127. The score was good enough to win by two shots over the Joe Leonard led team from The Oaks GC.

With their play the two teams were able to punch their ticket into the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. Rounding out the trio of qualifiers was the Keith Buntrock led Tuckaway CC team, as they were able to win a scorecard playoff after tying for third place.

In the professional contests it would be Ryan Helminen leading the way with a 2-under-par 70, and Charlie Brown heading up the over 50 crowd with a 1-over-par 73.

With the help of title sponsor X Golf Brookfield and Mequon the day also featured some fun proxy contests for the amateur participants. Taking home some Callaway golf balls and X Golf complimentary play was;

#3 – Patrick Ambroso
#8 – Blake Gabriel
#11 – Patrick Ambroso
#13 – Chad Sloden
#17 – Vance Hodges

The prizes kept coming as the post event announcements also featured a random draw for this year’s winner of the Wisconsin PGA/American Family Insurance Championship Primo Prize Pack. Each amateur pro-am participant from the April and May pro-ams was entered into the drawing. Lady luck shined on Tyler Schumude, as his name was drawn. Tyler will receive a foursome to University Ridge GC, a Bushnell Wingman speaker, and four tickets to the American Family Insurance Championship.

The WPGA would like to thank X Golf Brookfield and Mequon for jumping on board as the presenting partner of this year’s Oneida G&CC Pro-Am. With their help the event turned out to be a great value for all the attendees. In addition the American Family Insurance Championship also lent some key support to Monday’s event.

Also deserving of recognition was host site Oneida G&CC. The club and their staff provided a nice product for all the players to enjoy.
