(Cindy Butler, Barb Roloff, Jim Gaugert, Kathy McKeever)
The WPGA Pro-Ladies Series was excited to be back in action on Tuesday, as the Spring Four-Player event visited Nakoma Golf Club in Madison. It turned out to be a nice day for golf for the sold-out field of 26 foursomes from throughout the Wisconsin Section.
Each participating team was made up of one WPGA professional and three lady amateurs with WHS handicap indexes. They would be competing for the title and first place trophies in the two net better ball team format.
The Destination Geneva National / Harris Golf Cars team of Jim Gaugert, Cindy Butler, Barb Roloff and Kathy McKeever took the lead early on and never looked back. Each player did their part and helped on the way to their 15-under-par 129 total. The team did not give back a stroke to par until their 16th hole. Their play was good enough to secure the win by one shot.
As for team highlights, Gaugert would make four birdies and an eagle on the Nakoma GC layout, which was playing to a Par 72 for all players. Roloff would also make two natural birdies on her own on Par 5s, while receiving handicap strokes.
In addition to bragging rights among the six Destination Geneva National teams that played, the winning squad earned a spot into the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. The runner-up team from Tuckaway CC with Victor Jacinto also were able to secure a spot in the season-ending pro-am with their finish.
The individual professional stableford contests featured some great golf too. David Roesch and Jeff Kaiser carded 4-under-par 68s to propel them to 40 stableford points and a tie for the top spot among the pros. The score was good enough for Roesch to top the board with the senior professionals.
Adding some extra fun to the day with some closest to the pin contests was David Priebe and Wilson Golf. Taking home the great prizes from the company were:
Closest to the Pin
#2 – Sally Bunge
#4 – Brenda Miller
#7 – Hilari Cowan
#17 – Kelly Hazlett
The WPGA would like to express our appreciation once again to Wilson Golf for supporting this year’s Spring Pro-Ladies. It was their third straight year sponsoring one of the Pro-Ladies events. In addition, we’d like to express our appreciation to Nakoma GC for their willingness to host a WPGA Pro-Ladies event for the fourth time.
