After a rough weather start to the spring the participants at the TaylorMade & adidas Golf Pro-Am at Geneva National GC were happy to be greeted with summer like conditions on Monday. With temperatures reaching almost eighty degrees and plenty of sunshine, it was quite a day for golf. The revered event once again brought together a sold out field of 128 participants for the 11th straight year.
On the competition side of things the breezy conditions and Player course layout produced quite the battle to claim the top spot. Grabbing ahold of the win was the foursome of Austin Gaugert, Stan Mytych, Jeremy Lois and Matt Lois. The group was able to navigate the winds and tough bunkers to produce a 19-under-par 125 in the one net and one gross best ball format. A key portion of the winning mark was the fact they only carded two holes over par. The score delivered them a three shot win over a trio of teams and earned them a spot into the 3rd annual Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship in October.
Taking home the other two spots into the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship after a scorecard playoff was the Bryan Brotchie led Taylormade & adidas Golf squad and the David Roesch Storm’s Golf Range team.
In the low professional event it was Gaugert leading the way once again. His 5-under-par 67 included some impressive play on the par 5s, as he made an eagle and three birdies. The score was good enough to hold off Ryan Helminen by two shots. In the senior professional portion it was John Freeman finding the top of the board with a 1-over par 73.
Helping enhance the event for the sixth straight season was the duo of TaylorMade & adidas Golf. From tee gifts, to fun on course events, to a couple other add-ons, the company had all the bases covered for making sure the attendees had a great day. One of the add-ons was a drawing for a one of kind signed 2017 U.S. Open flag by Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy. The WPGA would like to thank adidas and TaylorMade Golf along with Matt Flaten, Steve Ploch and Eric Gitter for their continued support of the Wisconsin Section.
Part of those add-ones were five closest to the hole competitions. Taking home the prizes were Paul Clemins on #4 (Senior PGA Championship Tickets), Scot Mohr #6 (TaylorMade wedge), Mike Landry #13 (TaylorMade wedge), Tom Halla #15 (adidas golf shoes) and Dave Malison #17 (adidas golf shoes).
In addition to the prizes that were handed out on the day of the par 3 winners will also be entered into the American Family Insurance Championship Par 3 Grand Prize Giveaway. At the TaylorMade & adidas Golf Pro-Am, Morgan Stanley Pro-Am and Laser Link Golf Pro-Am the winners from the closest to the hole events will be entered into a grand prize drawing compliments of the American Family Insurance Championship. One lucky recipient will then be drawn from that group with the winner taking home a prize package with event tickets, golf at University Ridge GC and a Maui Jim gift card.
Along with the par 3 giveaways all the prizes from the other after play drawings were claimed on Monday.
A big thank you also goes out to Geneva National GC and the staff onsite for their efforts with the event. The club continues to take put its best foot forward each year and has set itself up as a can’t miss pro-am destination on the WPGA schedule.
