Cody Strang found the winner’s circle for the second straight week on Monday.
Last week he teamed up with three amateurs from This Legend at Bergamont at the Double Dip Pro-Am. This time he got the job done on his own at the WPGA Stableford Classic at Bullseye GC.
With a modified point system where birdies were worth 3 points and eagles 5 points, the players had to have an aggressive mindset going in. The only way a player could lose points was to make double bogey or worse for -1.
Barrett Kelpin and Nate Pronschinske would go out early and set the early lead with 23 points. Strang however chased them down with steady play on both the front and back nine. He made no worse than a bogey throughout the day and never gave back a point.
In the end his card had five birdies on it. The biggest one would come on hole no. 18, as he would knock it 18 feet and roll in his final birdie. It pushed him ahead of Kelpin, Pronschinske and Mark Voeller by two points. Strang’s 25 point winning total earned him $1,300 in first place prize money.
Voeller did get the bragging rights in the over 50 crowd by securing the senior division contest win.
A big thank you goes out to Monday’s event partners. With the help of the Wisconsin State Golf Association, Oliphant Golf Management and the PGA Tour, the players were given the chance to play for a solid purse.
The WPGA would also like to express our appreciation to everyone at Bullseye GC. The course is always excited to host Wisconsin PGA events, and it provided a fun layout for the go for broke format.
