CHEESE OPEN PRO-AM
EVENT PARTNERS

The Cheese Open Pro-Am returned to the WPGA schedule for the first time since 2013 on Monday. Twenty-Eight foursomes made the trek to Monroe Golf Club for a great day of golf, camaraderie, and competition.

The event was a staple on the WPGA Four-Player Pro-Am Series for many years. From roof putting to the fast and tricky Monroe GC greens, there were plenty of great memories made at “The Cheese” throughout the years.

More of those memories were made on Monday, as the club was able to give players a chance to enjoy some of the changes that have been made since the new ownership group came on board in 2023.

As for the competition side of things, the group of Craig Czerniejewski, Tim Halverson, Eric Kentowski and Craig Podlesnik led the way in the one net one gross better ball contest. They eked out the win by one shot over the Nate Pronschinske and James Grogan led squads. Their 12-under-par 128 total came amidst some windy conditions. Czerniejewski led the way for the group, as he made six natural birdies on the day.

Their play also helped them earn one of the three spots up for grabs into the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship. Also earning a spot in the championship were Steven Young and Andy Hansen.

Sweeping the board in the low professional and low senior professional stableford contests was Mark Voeller. Voeller put up 39 points via his 3-under-par 67. Finishing in second place in the low professional contest was Czerniejewski with 37 points.

A big thank you goes out to the event partners for their great support of Monday. With the help of PRG Golf, the Mike Muranyi Junior Golf Foundation, Colony Brands and Affiliates, and Maple Leaf Cheese, the club and the WPGA were able to put together a nice purse and some great perks. We truly appreciate the contributions that each of them made to the event.

We’d also like to express our gratitude to everyone at Monroe GC. The club was excited to host it once again and took great pride in showcasing some of the changes to the course, such as the renovated bunkers.
