Storm’s Golf Range Director of Instruction David Roesch and former University of Michigan golfer Jack Schultz made themselves right at home on Tuesday, as they captured the 11th annual The Legend Challenge – Scratch Pro-Am. The dynamic duo bagged their fourth win in the event as this year’s edition visited The Legend at Merrill Hills.
With soft conditions and beautiful weather the forty-eight two player teams had a green light to take the scoring into the red numbers. For Roesch and Schultz that mission would become an accomplishment as they birdied their way to the win. All told the twosome posted nine birdies and zero bogeys en route to their 9-under-par 63.
However in the end the mark was not quite good enough to win in regulation and had to be settled in a playoff. Matching the impressive score was the twosome that joined them for all eighteen holes, Jason Samuelian and Ricky Kuiper of Meadowbrook CC.
The birdies and fireworks between the two groups would take a brief break on the first playoff hole as they matched pars on the difficult par 4, 1st hole. However that quickly ended as both Roesch and Schultz stuffed their approach shots on the next hole, the par 4, 18th. The solid iron play delivered a tap in birdie from Roesch and with it came the win.
The win marks the first time that the duo has won the event at The Legend at Merrill Hills. The other wins came in 2011 and 2016 at The Legend at Brandybrook and 2010 at The Legend at Bristlecone.
Helping make the event possible and delivering a first class day to all the attendees were the 2018 Legend Challenge – Scratch Pro-Am event partners. Teaming up to support this year’s edition were Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles and The PGA Tour. The WPGA would like to express our appreciation and thank both entities for their contributions.
A big thank you also goes out to The Legend Clubs and all the staff at The Legend at Merrill Hills. The club once again did a great job of hosting and making sure all the attendees enjoyed their day.
