A rainy Monday morning left many wondering if the two WPGA pro-ams on the calendar would be played. Lady luck turned out to be on the WPGA’s side as the majority of the weather moved out of the state before the afternoon start time. A pleasant day for golf would accompany the twenty-nine teams at the X Golf Strawberry Creek Pro-Am. It marked the second straight sold out four-player pro-am field of the year.

With the pleasant conditions the day was ripe for scoring. In the 1,2,3 net team game the squads would need to take advantage of the reachable par 5s at Strawberry Creek in order to have success. Over the course of the round teams would count their one net best ball from the par 3s, two net from the par 4s and three net from the par 5s.

Taking home the win and playing some impressive golf was the Hidden Glen GC foursome of Tom Burton, Blake Seider, Brett Seider and Travis Dowden. The squad of low handicappers would play the par 5s at 9-under-par. The par-5 performance would help propel them to a 22-under-par 130 total. Their scorecard would consist of fourteen natural birdies and an eagle by Burton. It would be enough to hold on by one shot over the Washington County GC led Craig Czerniejewski group.

The winning squad would also punch their ticket to the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship in October. With Czerniejewski’s squad already qualified, two University Club teams led by Austin Schloesser and Andy Hansen would grab the final two qualifying spots on Monday.

As for Burton, the long island native would also lead the way in the low professional event. His five birdies and the aforementioned eagle gave him a 6-under-par 66. The score would better David Roesch and low senior professional Michael Crowley by one shot.

In addition to the standard team and low pro events, the day also featured amateur proxy prizes on the par 3s. Firing at the flagstick and taking home the X Golf and Tito’s provided prizes were;

#4 – Craig Podlesnik
#8 – Josh Yamat
#12 – Luke Chesak
#15 – Shawn DeMain

The WPGA would like to thank X Golf Brookfield / Mequon / Appleton for their title sponsorship and support once again. Also deserving of recognition were supporting partners Integrated Payment Services and Tito’s Vodka.

For the second straight season The Club at Strawberry Creek hosted the first June pro-am. They did another great job of showcasing their facility and providing players with a nice experience.
