(Paul Kundinger, John Lukas, Brian Brodell & Nick Vangrinsven)
The 2024 WPGA pro-am season got underway with a bang on Wednesday as the TaylorMade Pro-Am supported by Tito’s Vodka and the American Family Insurance Championship would visit Erin Hills. It marked the first time that the series has visited Erin Hills and gave the attendees an opportunity to see the course before it officially opened for the season.
The event sold out in record time for the WPGA, as it filled up with 26 entries in under two minutes. It would turn out to be quite the treat for the attendees, as beautiful spring weather would accompany the first-class conditions and service throughout the day.
On the course it would be the Brian Brodell and Butte des Morts CC foursome that would again lead the way. After capturing the 2023 TaylorMade Pro-Am just down the road at Oconomowoc GC, they would put together another impressive performance. This year’s squad featured Brodell, Nick Vangrinsven, John Lukas and the one changeover, Paul Kundinger. They would card a 21-under-par 123 score in the one net and one gross best ball format. Their gross ball led the way as the foursome would combine to make eleven natural birdies and one eagle.
The score was good enough to win by four shots over the Storm’s Golf Range team with David Roesch.
With it being the first pro-am of the season Brodell, Roesch and Robert Leist of Erin Hills would claim the three spots available in the Oliphant Golf Management Pro-Am Championship.
In the low pro game it would be Steven Young of Whitnall Park GC with the low mark of the day. He’d post a 6-under-66, which gave him 42 stableford points. The total was one clear of second place finisher and low senior professional, David Roesch.
Once again with the help of our event partners the WPGA was able to roll out some great prizes for closest to the pin events. At stake were some TaylorMade MG4 wedges and a Vessel Tito’s golf bag.
Taking home some new merchandise were:
#6 – Matt Marinaro
#9 – Luke Larson
#13 – PJ Clemins
#16 – Bryan Groshek
In addition, each winner was awarded two tickets to the upcoming American Family Insurance Championship.
A great deal of gratitude goes out once again to our event partners, TaylorMade Golf, the American Family Insurance Championship and Tito’s Vodka. The trio of companies teamed up to present a fantastic day for all the participants.
The WPGA would also like to recognize and thank everyone at Erin Hills. The course was in terrific early season shape and the WPGA greatly appreciates the club taking the opportunity to host.
