With the Milwaukee area battling severe flooding, there were definitely doubts that the Summer-Pro Ladies – Five Player Event would take place as scheduled on Monday. Fortunately, the event was set to visit one of the best draining courses in the area, Washington County GC.
A little sogginess didn’t dampen the spirits of the players, as they were just happy to be on the course. It was a day with plenty of camaraderie, while keeping friends and family that have been dealing with the flooding on their mind.
Twenty-Four teams from throughout the Wisconsin Section helped fill the field up once again.
Taking home this year’s title was The Legend at Bergamont group of Brad Petashnick, Traci Stanek, Lauri Saunders, Maria Riser and Sheryl Lindmeier. The team got off to incredible start by playing their first nine holes at 15-under-par. They then cruised to victory with some solid playing over their final nine holes. Over the course of the entire round, they did not give back any shots to par.
Finishing in second place, three shots off the pace, was the Yahara Hills GC group led by Ryan Brinza.
As for the low professional stableford contests, Charlie Brown swept the regular and senior contests. A hot start and finish to his round helped sealed the deal. In the end, he carded a 7-under-par 65, compiling 43 stableford points. The score was good enough to hold off Craig Czerniejewski in the regular pro contest by one point.
In addition to the standard team contest and low pro events, the day would also feature some closest to the pin contests and a longest putt for the lady amateurs. Taking home a new XXIO Golf Ladies Hybrid were:
#4 – Lisa Bear
#6 – Jill Trider (HOLE-IN-ONE!)
#14 – Becky Spengler
#16 – Karianne Carr
#11 – Katy Eckhardt – Longest Putt
The WPGA would like to express our appreciation to Harris Golf Cars, XXIO Golf, and Tito’s Vodka for supporting this year’s Summer Pro-Ladies event. All three companies brought some extra enhancements to the day.
We’d also like to thank Washington County GC for hosting. We truly appreciate the extra effort the club and staff put in to make sure the event was played after the weekend rainfall.
