The coveted Manuel de la Torre Trophy was the focus again on Monday, as the WPGA Pro-Assistant made its annual appearance on the tournament calendar. It was a beautiful day for golf as a large field of WPGA professionals ventured to the Northwoods to enjoy the day. In keeping with tradition, Minocqua CC would play host to the day and offer a preview of what will be in store for the participants of next year’s Wisconsin State Open.

With ideal September weather and perfect course conditions the field was ready to rack up some birdies.

For the sixteenth straight season the event would feature two divisions of play.

The traditional division would feature 56 teams. The two-player teams in the primary division would consist of a head professional, director of golf or individual in general management, paired up with an eligible assistant professional from their facility.

The second division would be comprised of 10 other teams, which featured two WPGA professionals working for the same company or facility, regardless of their PGA classification. The division gives professionals a chance to participate that might not otherwise have the chance to do so.

Taking home the victory in the traditional division was the Ozaukee Country Club duo of Jason Rasmussen and Jake Wisniewski. The two J’s would combine to make nine birdies on the day. Their better ball would only produce one bogey on their scorecard. In the end they would put up a 7-under-par 65 in the four-ball stroke play format. It would prove to be just enough to deliver them a one shot win over five other teams.

The victory marks the fifth time that a team from Ozaukee Country Club has won the WPGA Pro-Assistant. Rasmussen and Wisniewski now join Bob Brue, Gary Mattioli, Joe Paletti and Nelson Norwood as Pro-Assistant champions to represent Ozaukee Country Club.

In the second division of play, Shaun Finley and Joe Leonard of The Oaks Golf Course would get the victory. Their 7-under-par 65 would match Rasmussen and Wisniewski for the low score of the day. Leonard would lead the way for the duo with a sizzling 6-under-par 30 on the front-nine. The score would deliver them a three shot win.

It marks the second time that they’ve won the second division at the Pro-Assistant. The other coming at Blue Mound G&CC in 2019.

In addition to the primary contests the day also featured some proxy contests on par 3s. Taking home a new Wingman Mini from Bushnell Golf were:

#3 – Zach Ebert
#5 – Gus Pick
#13 – Andrew Kosloske
#16 – Drew Zimmerman

The WPGA was again fortunate to have a great collection of partners for the Pro-Assistant. We’d like to thank Bushnell Golf, the Wisconsin State Golf Association and the PGA Tour for lending some terrific support to this year’s event.

We’d also like express our appreciation to the staff and members at Minocqua CC. The club did a fantastic job of hosting the Pro-Assistant. From top-notch course conditions to a great spread of food after play, they took great pride in having the event.
