The WPGA / WGCSA Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles Super-Pro was held Wednesday, April 29, on the Irish Course at Whistling Straits, bringing together golf professionals, superintendents, and industry participants from around Wisconsin for a day of competition and camaraderie.
The event featured a sold-out field for the second straight season, with 56 teams competing across two divisions at one of Wisconsin’s premier golf destinations. Despite cool temperatures and on-and-off rain throughout the day, players embraced the challenging conditions and delivered a memorable edition of the annual competition.
As expected, the Chapman Alternate Shot format provided plenty of challenges, testing players’ patience and skill throughout the round.
The Traditional Division featured 30 teams, involving teams with a WPGA member or associate and a WGCSA member with a handicap index, representing the same facility.
Claiming the Division One championship was the team from Blackhawk Country Club, as Emmet Herb and Chad Grimm posted a 73 gross score. After the 6.2 team handicap was applied, the duo finished with an impressive 66.8 net score to secure the title in challenging weather conditions.
Starting their round on hole No. 10, Herb and Grimm set a steady tone early despite the difficult conditions. Then a hot stretch on their final nine holes would turn out to be the difference-maker, as three key gross birdies on holes 1, 7, and 8 sealed the deal.
Their effort ultimately proved just enough, as they edged out defending champions Luke Scharf and Jim VanHerwynen of South Hills Golf & Country Club by just two-tenths of a stroke—one of the closest finishes in the event’s history.
Division Two included 26 teams and was made up of every team that did not fit into the traditional division.
Taking home the title was the team of Chad Sandee and Darrin DiChristopher of Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles, who posted a 75 gross score with a 9.0 team handicap for a net 66.
They closed their round in strong fashion with a bogey-free back nine, highlighted by a gross birdie on No. 10 followed by eight consecutive pars to finish, securing the Division Two victory.
The WPGA and WGCSA extend sincere appreciation to title sponsor Premier Golf & Utility Vehicles for their continued support of the Super-Pro. Special thanks are also extended to supporting sponsor, Swannies, for providing all the attendees with a great welcome gift.
A heartfelt thank you is also owed to the team at Whistling Straits for once again providing a world-class venue and exceptional playing conditions for all the attendees.
The WPGA / WGCSA Super-Pro remains a valued tradition on Wisconsin’s golf calendar and a great day to network with peers and co-workers before the season kicks into high gear.
