Thursday marked the conclusion of another great WPGA Nike Golf Las Vegas Pro-Am, as players finished up with a morning round of golf and a banquet lunch afterwards. The annual weeklong trip brought 39 teams and 193 players out to Sin City, to enjoy some great golf and relief from the snow back home. The trip featured players staying at Paris Las Vegas along with golf at Bali Hai GC, Bear’s Best and Royal Links GC.
The 54-hole competition featured three different formats of golf, including 2 Net Best Ball, 1 Net / 1 Gross Best Ball and 1,2,3 Net Best Ball. In the end the team from Maple Bluff CC of Jim Schuman, Dave Bruns, Jerry Shipman, John Orr and Chuck Steinhauer held on for the win. The fivesome shot out to a large lead after day one as they went 22-under-par on the 1 Net, 1 Gross format at Royal Links. They then managed to post another two solid rounds to secure the four-shot win over the Kurt Mantyla led Legend Clubs group and Brad Peck’s Nakoma group. Their team professional, Jim Schuman helped lead the way throughout the 54-holes as he finished in the top three of the professional stableford events each day. The win marks a sweet moment for both Shipman and Bruns, as they have each supported the WPGA Nike Golf Las Vegas Pro-Am over 20 times.
Once again the WPGA was fortunate to have Nike Golf as a partner of our annual trip out west. This year’s event marked their 12th year of involvement. With the help of Nick Jahnke, Joe Ritchie and Jeff Thornhill the trip once again featured some great tee gifts, fun daily giveaways, and on Wednesday a very popular Nike Covert Distance Challenge. The challenge gave all the amateur players an opportunity to see how their current driver stacked up with the new Nike Covert. The top finishers that gained the most yardage were able to take home a new club from the Covert line.
The WPGA would like to thank Nike Golf along with its representatives for their continued sponsorship of the event.
