The 2014 WPGA Nike Golf Las Vegas Pro-Am crowned its annual champion on Thursday, as the event wrapped up with morning shotguns at both Cascata and Siena GC. Heading into the final round of play the leaders of the pack were the team from the Wisconsin Section, PGA of Joe Stadler, Rick Elsen, Tom Brand, Ray Abbott and Jerry Kurth. After daily wins in each of the first two competitions for Group A, the team had a few shots to work with but still posted an impressive day three score. Capping off the event the fivesome finished in second place at Siena GC in the 1,2,3 net best ball format, which led them to post a 54 hole total of 51-under-par 389. The winning score was good enough to hold off the Bisbee's Golf Center team by nine shots. With their daily finishes it marks the first time since 2010 that a team has finished in the top two in each of the daily competitions.
As for the final day of competition, besting the Wisconsin Section, PGA team for the Group A victory was the Nike Golf team of Dan Hoffman, Nick Jahnke, Joe Zell, Jeff Gallenberger and Mike Miller. The fivesome was just able to sneak by the overall champs with a one shot win on Thursday as they carded a 17-under-par 135. In the low professional competition for Group A, Naga-Waukee GC's, Mike Johnston led the way with 23 stableford points.
In Group B the final day of competition produced another tight race to the top. Conquering Cascata the best was the Washington County GC squad of Craig Czerniejewski, Tom Halla, Gary Olmschenk, Jeff Serak and Mike Heerey. The top scoring team in the 1 net, 1 gross best ball format was able to post a 17-under-par 127. The winning score was good enough to hold on by one shot over the Jeff Bisbee led team from Bisbee's Golf Center. Although Bisbee came up just short in the team event for the day, he left no doubt in the low professional contest as to who played the best. For the second day in the row he took home the low professional honors, this time with 27 stableford points.
With the event wrapping up on Thursday, the participants will depart town after a fun week of great golf, camaraderie and fun. Helping make the 2014 edition a hit with the participants was long time sponsor, Nike Golf. Once again the company along with Nick Jahnke and Joe Ritchie did a fantastic job of making sure all the participants took home some great tee gifts. This year's event featured our first Nike Golf Mobile Pro-Shop and it was received with rave reviews. Giving participants the chance to pick from a slew of different items, it gave everyone the freedom to find something that fit their eye and needs. The WPGA would like to thank Nike Golf, Nick and Joe for their continued support of our event.
Along with our sponsor, the WPGA would like to thank all the participants for making the trek out to Sin City once again. We hope everyone had a fantastic time and we look forward to 2015.
