The WPGA with the help of Nike Golf wrapped up the 2016 WPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am on Thursday. Amidst another gorgeous day the sold out field finished up their golf at SouthShore GC and Reflection Bay GC. With the beautiful backdrop of Lake Las Vegas surrounding them the conditions were ripe for some great scoring.
Putting together three solid rounds to take home the first place trophies was the group of Mark Voeller, Jerry Schmidt, Bruce Huibregtse, Mike Stock and Mick Kohl. With finishes of third, first and a tie for third in the daily events, they were able to put up a 54-hole score of 50-under-par 388. The winning score was good enough to hold off the David Roesch led fivesome by two shots. The victorious squad was able to grab some redemption as they came up just short last year when they finished in second.
In the daily competitions two teams that had not finished in the top five on the first two days found some magic to grab the victories. Group A was led by the University Ridge GC fivesome of Mike Gaspard, Joe Armentrout, Mike Urso, Ross Miller and Pat McCarthy. The squad put up an impressive 22-under-par 130 score in the 1,2,3 net best ball event at Reflection Bay. In Group B the team from The Bull, made up of Scott Evans, Mike Kolb, Doug Horter, Brian Havner and Tom Archie were able to get the job done at SouthShore GC. In the 2 net format they took it deep with a 21-under-par 121 total. Good enough to win by three shots.
In the professional competitions David Roesch was able to lead the way in Group A with 24 stableford points. As for Group B Jim Schuman grabbed the top spot with one of those rounds to remember as he carded a 7-under-par 64 which totaled up to 33 points.
The WPGA would like to thank all 240 participants for attending and helping the event sell out for the first time since 2008. A great deal of gratitude also goes out to our title sponsor, Nike Golf. Sales representative, Joe Ritchie and Midwest Marketplace Director, Nick Jahnke once again did a great job of putting together some terrific gifts and fun contests to help enhance the event. Their continued support has helped make the event one of the best tournaments that the Wisconsin PGA runs throughout the year.
Lastly the WPGA would like to thank our host hotel, the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino and our host courses, Dragon Ridge CC, SouthShore GC and Reflection Bay GC for all their hospitality and hard work towards our event.
