WPGA Fall Destination Pro-Am
Earlier this week the Wisconsin PGA wrapped up its fourth venture to Scottsdale, AZ for our annual Fall Destination Pro-Am. The sold out field of nineteen foursomes enjoyed a great week that was filled with plenty of laughs, camaraderie, golf and competition. Throughout the three the days the players were greeted with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. This year’s trip featured rounds on the Pinnacle and Monument courses at Troon North GC and also the North Course at The Boulders Resort.
Topping the field was a team led by Ridgeway CC PGA Teaching Professional Ryan Helminen and a trio of Sunset Hills CC members from Edwardsville, IL. Helminen along with Kerry Baugher, Joe Stevens and Paul Zimmer were able to secure a three shot victory with consistent golf throughout the three days. The group carded scores of 131 in the one net, one gross best ball format, 136 in the 1,2,3 best ball format and 130 in the 2 net best ball format. With those scores they were able to finish in second or a tie for second in all three daily events. The three round total of 41-under-par 397 held off the second place squad of Mark Voeller, Carl Anderson, Dave Raysich and Dan Krause.
Grabbing some of the headlines from the champions were the winners from day three. The foursome of Jason Samuelian, John Staehler, Carlo Pedone and Todd Grant were able to blow away the field with an impressive 25-under-par 119 score in the two net best ball format. The score is the lowest in a four player Wisconsin PGA pro-am round in recent memory. Prior to this event the lowest score recorded in the past sixteen years was 121.
The 54-hole event also featured daily low professional stableford events. Grabbing the wins were David Roesch on day one with 31 points and Ryan Helminen with 30 and 29 points on the final two days.
A big thank you goes out to Troon North and The Boulders for hosting this year’s event. The courses were very well received and drew numerous positive comments.
The WPGA would also like to thank adidas Golf and Matt Flaten for supporting our trip. With their help the players were greeted with a great gift package when they finished up their first round.
